There's no stopwatch for suck-up transformation, but the more you yammer at your boss trying to impress, the quicker you'll earn that unwanted label. Talking itself isn't the problem, but spamming your boss with empty flattery or desperate approval is the express lane to 'lambe botas' status. Keep it professional, or enjoy the cringe.
